Deverick Long is a multidisciplinary creative from Aliceville, Alabama. Growing up as his mother’s only child, he spent much of his time exploring creative outlets at home, developing a lifelong fascination with television, music, cooking, art, and magazines. The combination of boredom, curiosity, and imagination became the foundation of a career built on storytelling through words, images, and culture.
A 2010 graduate of Aliceville High School, Long was voted Most Talented by his classmates. After high school, he attended the Art Institute of Atlanta but ultimately chose to leave, finding the environment too commercially focused for the kind of creative freedom he wanted to pursue. Proudly embracing the label of “art school dropout,” he forged his own path as an independent creative professional.
In 2011, Long founded Eccentric Blue Photography & Design, launching a career in photography, branding, and visual storytelling. His work quickly gained recognition, and in 2012 he was named Best Photographer at the Tuscaloosa Urban Awards. That same year, he served as a press photographer at The Source Magazine’s Power 30 reception.
In 2015, Long launched makingallthenoise.com, a real-time hip-hop news website dedicated to covering music and culture. The following year, he expanded his creative focus by becoming a freelance music journalist and food blogger, adopting the social media handle @thehiphopfoodie.
In 2017, he launched thehiphopfoodie.com, a platform exploring the intersection of food, culture, and storytelling. Through the site and his growing reputation as a creative strategist, he was sought out by clients and organizations including Mia X, Chex Cereal, Paper Route Empire, Corner Bakery, Redfin National Real Estate Brokerage, Everfresh Juice, and others to help execute publicity and marketing campaigns.
Long expanded his artistic practice in 2019 with the launch of devlongart.com (now devericklong.com), a platform showcasing his visual artwork, including abstract paintings, digital illustrations, and hand-cut concept collages.
In 2020, he began writing a recipe column for the Pickens County Herald and later became a writer and photographer covering local news. His passion for documenting culture, community, and food eventually culminated in the publication of his 2022 cookbook memoir, Music at the Dinner Table: Notes and Recipes from a Hip-Hop Foodie, a blend of personal stories, cultural reflections, and recipes inspired by his life and influences.
Today, Long continues to work at the crossroads of journalism, art, food, and culture. In 2025, he began serving as Senior News Producer at West Alabama News, bringing years of storytelling experience to one of West Alabama’s leading news organizations.
