REVIEW: Keyshia Cole Hits 'Reset' With Her New Album
Sometimes we all need to just go back to the drawing board and regroup. Better yet, "reset." That is exactly what 36-year-old R&B singer-songwriter Keyshia Cole did in order to bring forth her latest album, 11:11 Reset.
The emotionally-charged album is the former reality star's first album in almost four years. Since the release of 2014's Point of No Return, Cole has been through a high profile divorce, she met her biological father for the first time, and has even signed to a new record label.
11:11 Reset, Cole’s seventh solo album is positioned to set her up for a new beginning.
Cole starts the album with an introduction from DJ Khaled on a self-affirmation track titled "Cole World" where Khaled speaks on respecting Cole for weathering the storm.
The following track "Unbothered" is the first complete song from the album and it continues the self-affirmation as Cole sings "I’m better than I ever been/ Everything you never been / And I hate it for you haters, ‘cause I don’t plan on settlin’.."
After Cole reminds everyone that she is confident and as tough as nails, she gets more into the Keyshia that we all fell in love with on tracks like “You” and “Incapable.” Cole brought along Remy Ma and French Montana for the DJ Quik-produced "You." The upbeat hip-hop and r&b collaboration is an ode to moving on. Besides the upbeat jams, Cole is known for the heartbreak ballads. That is what she brings on the album's fourth track, the acoustic guitar filled "Incapable"
“Best Friend” and "Vault" finds Cole explaining exactly what she wants and what she could be in a relationship.
11:11 Reset wasn't a fast forward button for Cole, but it was both a pause button and rewind button to get things back to where they used to be. Cole's music is back to it's old self, but her spirits are brand new.
After years of being the subject of inglorious memes and degrading tweets about selling fish plates after award shows, Keyshia Cole is back to flex her vibrant vocal range and flaunt her new glow.
